Van Werven heeft voor zijn plastic recycling activiteiten in de UK de Sustainable Investment Award ontvangen. De Award werd namens het Department for International Trade uitgereikt door de Britse Ambassadeur de heer Peter Wilson samen met Barbara Baarsma, Director Knowledge Development bij de Rabobank.

De uitreiking vond plaats bij de Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club op de Dam in Amsterdam. Het juryrapport gaf onder meer aan dat de toekenning van deze Award aan Van Werven is gebaseerd op de bijdrage die Van Werven levert aan het behoud van grondstoffen in de circulaire keten en het voorkomen van CO2 emissies voor de productie van primaire grondstoffen.


Brexit 

Van Werven startte in 2012 zijn eerste activiteiten in de UK. “In de afgelopen jaren hebben we daar een mooi netwerk opgebouwd van leveranciers en afnemers”, aldus Ton van der Giessen, managing director bij Van Werven. In het eerste kwartaal van dit jaar investeerde Van Werven in een geheel nieuwe recyclinginstallatie die van plastic afval direct een secundaire grondstof produceert. De mogelijk nabije Brexit-situatie heeft Van Werven doen besluiten deze investering versneld te laten plaatsvinden. Tot begin 2017 werd een deel van de recyclingactiviteiten uitgevoerd in Nederland. Met deze investering wordt grensoverschrijdend transport naar Nederland en vice versa voorkomen.
 
De nieuwe lijn is door Van Werven zelf ontwikkeld en gebouwd. De totale capaciteit van de activiteiten in de UK bedraagt op dit moment 20.000 ton per jaar. Nog dit jaar verwacht Van Werven een tweede locatie te starten in de UK. Naast de UK en Nederland is Van Werven Plastic Recycling tevens actief in België met vestigingen in Antwerpen en Lanaken. De totale plastic recycling capaciteit bedraagt op dit moment ruim 100.000 ton per jaar. Van Werven bespaart daarmee 250.000 ton CO2, te vergelijken met de uitstoot van 100.000 auto’s per jaar. De secundaire grondstoffen krijgen een hoogwaardige toepassing in bijvoorbeeld nieuw tuinmeubilair, de automotive industrie en in huishoudelijke artikelen. 


Sustainable Investment Award presented to Van Werven

 
Van Werven has been awarded the Sustainable Investment Award for its plastic recycling installation in the UK. The award was presented by the Minister of UK Trade and Investment and the British Ambassador Sir Peter Wilson. The award was presented at the Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club on Dam square in Amsterdam.
 
Van Werven (Founded in the Netherlands) first started recycling in the UK in 2012. Managing Director Ton Van Der Giessen said in a speech “Throughout the years we have built a large network of suppliers and customers which helped our company to progress successfully”
 
In 2016 Van Werven decided to take the next step and expand the UK based operation by installing a state of the art recycling process which converts waste plastic streams into high grade reusable products. With a possible Brexit in mind, Van Werven decided to expedite this investment. Until early 2017 when the installation was completed in the UK, the main recycling process and technology was only available at the mother site in Biddinghuizen. With investment made in the UK this prevented cross boarder transports and reduced the carbon footprint.
 
The new recycling line was fully developed and engineered by Van Werven and with the new technology the site can now process in excess of 20,000 tonnes per year. Towards the end of 2017 Van Werven plan to invest again in the UK by installing the same process in Ireland. Van Werven Plastic Recycling has its main location in the Netherlands (Biddinghuizen) and also has affiliates in Belgium (Antwerpen and Lanaken). The current plastic recycling capacity of the whole company is 100,000 tonnes per year, with this high capacity Van Werven saves 250,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.  The high quality grinded material that is produced through the recycling processes goes into automotive industry products and garden furniture just to name a few.

Van Werven start plastic recycling activiteiten in Ierland

Per 1 november is Van Werven samen met een Ierse partner gestart met het recyclen van harde plastics in zowel de Ierse Republiek als in Noord Ierland. De activiteiten vinden plaats in Dublin en Ballymena onder de naam Van Werven Ireland en Van Werven Northern Ireland.
